The Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) purchased Portland’s oldest commercial wharf from Proprietors of Union Wharf, Inc. Union Wharf, consisting of 4.3± acres on Commercial Street, contains twelve buildings totaling 61,872± SF and has been owned by the Poole Family for 160 years. The Gulf of Maine Research Institute is a non-profit marine science and research center and stated that they plan to protect and preserve the working waterfront, much to the delight of the local commercial fishing industry.
The transaction was arranged on behalf of the buyer by Tony McDonald, CCIM, SIOR of The Boulos Company and on behalf of the seller by Chris Craig of The Dunham Group.
