Youth Literary Non-Profit the Telling Room Will Move to Larger Space At 55 Washington Avenue This Fall

This New Home Allows for Room to Grow and Their First Private Entrance

Portland, ME (June 2026)The Boulos Company is pleased to share that The Telling Room, a literary arts nonprofit dedicated to empowering Maine’s youth through writing, will open a new, larger home at 55 Washington Avenue this fall, creating more space for students, programs, and community events while giving the organization its first dedicated entrance.

“We’ve always believed our students do their best work when they feel they belong; somewhere bright, cozy, and welcoming to share their writing, where they feel seen and heard,” said The Telling Room’s Executive Director Kristina Powell. “That’s what we found at 55 Washington Avenue, and we can’t wait to watch our students grow into it.”

Centered around a courtyard and filled with natural light, the new studio will provide students with space to write, collaborate with teachers and coaches, and gather for readings, workshops, and community events.

“Our first consideration was to understand The Telling Room’s long-term needs, their budget constraints, and their need for a creative environment in an accessible setting convenient to their members throughout greater Portland,” said Chris Paszyc, CCIM, SIOR of The Boulos Company, who represented The Telling Room. “55 Washington Avenue checks all those boxes—it has all the elements they need to grow while still remaining deeply connected to the community they serve. We were honored their team trusted us to help them find a new long-term home.”

For more than 20 years, The Telling Room has helped young people across Maine discover and develop their voices through writing. The organization has earned national recognition for its programs, welcomed visits from former U.S. presidents, and published award-winning collections of student work. It’s the only organization of its kind in Maine and serves the state’s young people in school, after school, online, and through summer camps.

The Telling Room will continue its summer programming at its current home, 225 Commercial Street, through August 31, before opening after school programs at 55 Washington Avenue in the fall.

The Telling Room was represented by Managing Partner Chris Paszyc, CCIM, SIOR, and Associate Tripp Clark of The Boulos Company. Broker Brice O’Connor of The Boulos Company represented the landlord, Dayton 59, LLC.
